Health insurance coverage comes in many different forms in today’s market. While many families have coverage through their employers, a large and growing segment of the population has to find and pay for their own health insurance.

It is important to be aware of all the choices for individual and family health insurance coverage. If you are in between jobs it is probably best to shop for short term or temporary health insurance. These types of plans are available for 30 to 180 days and they often pay on an indemnity basis. That means when you get medical care, after your deductible is met, they would pay their percentage of the usual and customary charges.

If you are self employed or simply working for an employer that does not offer health insurance coverage, you can look for a PPO Plan. That means a preferred provider organization plan.

With these plans you can go to any providers in the network and once your deductible is met the plan should pay their full percentage of the rest of the bill. Most insurance companies today such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, Golden Rule, and Celtic, offer PPO Plans. Deductibles will range from $250 up to $2500 or $5000.

One special choice of health insurance coverage that is becoming quite popular is called a Health Savings Account. With this type of plan you would choose a high deductible, such as $2500 or $5000. This would give you a considerably lower premium.

You are then allowed to deposit a certain amount of money each month into your health savings account to use for medical costs during the year. The account is tax deferred, meaning whatever you put in there is a deduction off your taxes, similar to an IRA Account. The money you put in your account is in addition to your monthly premium for the health insurance coverage, but if you don’t use the money in your account it keeps growing year after year.

Another type of health insurance coverage that is popular is called an HMO Plan or health maintenance organization plan. With this kind of plan you will usually pay a higher monthly premium but when you go to the doctor the cost may only be $10 per visit. Each person in the family has their own primary care physician. An HMO Plan can be a good choice especially if you have young children where you make a lot of doctor visits. The downside of the HMO Plans is that you give up freedom of choice of providers, but it still works well for many families.

Our service offers to provide you free health insurance quotes for all the many types of coverage that are available.
